In 1868, the parish of Clonmelsh contained the following places:

"CLONMELSH, (or Clonmulsk), a parish in the barony and county of Carlow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles S. of Carlow, its post town. It lies along the banks of the river Barrow, the soil is generally good, and the road from Carlow to Leighlin Bridge intersects the parish. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Leighlin, value £178, in the patronage of the bishop The seats in the neighbourhood are Garryhunden, Clonmulsk, and Ballvbarony
