In 1868, the parish of Killinane contained the following places:

"KILLINANE, a parish in the baronies of East Idrone and West Idrone, county Carlow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 2 miles S. of Leighlin-bridge, its post town. This parish is situated on the banks of the river Barrow, and contains the vil, of Royal Oak. The soil is generally good. The living is a suspended rectory in the diocese of Leighlin, value £202, in the patronage of the bishop. Killinane House is the principal residence."

"ROYAL OAK, a village in the parish of Killinane, barony of Idrone West, county Carlow, province of Leinster, Ireland, 1 mile S.W. of Bagnalstown. It is situated on the river Barrow, and on the road from Dublin to Carlow. It is named from an old inn which stood here."
