In 1868, the parish of Extraparochial contained the following places:

"DERRYBRIEN, an extra-parochial place in the barony of Loughrea, in the county of Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 10 miles S. of Loughrea. It contains the village of its own name and part of the Slieve Baughta mountains."
