Church History

There was no place of worship in the parish for several centuries after the ancient parish church in the burial ground fell into into ruins.

In the Established Church (later the Church of Ireland) the parish was united to Kilcaragh in 1730. In a church was built at a new site in the village. In June 1871 Kilcaragh and Duagh Union were merged with the Union of Listowel. The church was closed and subsequently demolished.

A Roman Catholic chapel was built in the early nineteenth century. It was replaced by the present church, dedicated to St Bridget, in 1859. The Catholic parish of Duagh includes part of the civil parish of Kilshenane.
