The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Powerstown contained the following places:

"POWERSTOWN, a parish in the barony of Gowran, county Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles S.E. of Gowran. Goresbridge is its post town. It is about 3 miles square, lying along the banks of the river Barrow. The road from Gowran to Graignenamanagh passes through the parish. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese Of Leighlin, value £359, in the patronage of the crown and bishop alternately. The church is an old building. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Ullard. There is a day school in the parish. Near the village are the ruins of two churches, and likewise of Drumroe Castle."
