Moydow

"MOYDOW, pa(rish) and ha(mlet), Moydow bar(ony), mid co Longf(ord), Ir(eland), 4 1/2 s. of Longford; ac(res) 4,626; soil mostly fertile. The Protestant church is a small plain 18th century edifice. At the foot of the Slieve Gauldry Hills is a ruined castle, which belonged to the family of O'Ferrall. M(oydow) is said to occupy the site of the abbey of Kilmhodain, over which St. Modan presided in the 6th cent(ury). Bawn, Castlerea, Meeltanagh, Mount Jessop, and Toneen are seats."
