The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Killeevan contained the following places:

"KILLEEVAN, a parish in the barony of Dartree, county Monaghan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 2 miles E. of Clones, its post town. The parish is 5 miles long by 2½ broad, and contains the village of Newbliss. The surface lies along the N. bank of the river Fina. It contains some extent of turbary bog. The interior is traversed by the roads from Clones to Dublin and Ballyboy. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Clogher, value £523, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was erected in 1794, and enlarged in 1812 by aid of the late Board of First Fruits. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Aughaboy. There is a Presbyterian meetinghouse, also eleven day schools. Ballynure and Glynch are the chief seats.

"DRUMSWOODS, a village in the parish of Killeevan, barony of Dartree, in the county of Monaghan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 3 miles S.S.E. of Clones."

"NEWBLISS, a post and market village in the parish of Killeevan, barony of Dartree, county Monaghan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 9 miles S.W. of Monaghan. It is a station on the Irish North-Western railway. It is situated on the road from Ballybay to Clones, near Lough Leesborough. It contains a church, Presbyterian meeting-house, and two schools; also a police station, market-house, and dispensary, which last is in the Clones Poor-law Union. Saturday is market day. A fair is held monthly for cattle."
