The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Drum contained the following places:

"DRUM, a parish in the barony of Athlone, in the county of Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland, 3 miles S.W. of Athlone. Ballinasloe is its post town. It is situated on the river Shannon and at the lower end of Lough Ree. The surface is flat, with some bog. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Tuam, value with Moore, £227, in the patronage of the Marquis of Clanricarde. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of St. Peter's of Athlone. There are four daily and one National school. An abbey is alleged to have stood here, of which no traces remain. The seats are Thomastown, Johnstown, Ardkenan, Summer Hill, and White House."
