forwarders to my current ISP address. I have found that when the
'iname' people do software updates they often shut the site down for

So, I found another address that does the same thing at Yahoo. Thank

Thanks for your message. I have a copy of an "extract of an entry in a of Births" from the General Register Office, Edinburgh. It states that James Carnegie was born to Jane Carnegie in Dunfermline (Fife). In the column under "name, surname and rank or profession of father" it is written in "illegitimate." Jane Carnegie is his mother's name and it lists "power loom weaver" as her job. Also under the date of birth, it has Pittencriff Street, Dunfermline listed as the place of birth.
Since no father's name is available, how does one go about learning any more on that line of the family. I guess it's a dead end. But I would appreciate any information on Jane's parents, grandparents, etc.

Hope I got your formatting correct - and that my e-mail hasn;t totally confused you! I know I wasn't altogether pleased with GENUKI's sudden announcement that all surname pages would be taken over - especially as they wouldn't acknowledge their existence as part of the GENUKI set-up in the first place - but I continue to maintain my KRS and CLK lists anyway. As I see it, there are too many people who have asked me to put their entries on the web to say to "GENUKI have told me - "don't do it anymore!"

Subject: Isobel Wemyas, and John Moubray
I am in the midst of zeroing in on the missing link in my lineage back to Scotland.
In a book (title unknown), there is a section that speaks about the Moubray family of
Cockairny in the parish of Dalgety, by Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.
In particular, the man I believe to be my link, is John Moubray, who married a second wife named Isobel Wemyas of Aberdour on May 13, 1659.

Subject: Moubray's of Cockairny.
I thought that a leg up may help you understand where my mind is at about my research, so I am sending a page from the book I mentioned in my last email.
The bottom line for me, is what happened to John Moubray Jr, born 1642 to John Moubray, and his first wife Elizabeth Logan.
Note: Isobel Wemyas would be his second wife, as indicated on the book's page.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello folks,
Due to the excess amount of spam and unsavoury mail which I have been receiving, and the wasted time that it involves in deleting same, I have found it necessary to change my e-mail address.
I hope that this doesn't inconvenience or offend you, but somehow my e-mail address has been passed on to a worldwide circuit for spam who send out dozens of junk mails per week (probably unknowingly to the person who has revealed it). It would be appreciated if you could keep any future mail addressed to me personally at my new address, and also exclude me from any future e-mails which are either hyperlinked or are "Cc:s".
My address as from 1 November 2001 will be 'jracarlisle' (all one word) followed by @supanet.com (the old jra.carlisle@lineone.net will no longer exist).
Hopefully this action should cut out all further offensive and intrusive e-mails.
Thanks,

Subject: ELIZABETH WEMYSS
Hi Hugh!
I think we may have been in contact some time ago, but I am still searching
for proof of my GGGG grandmother's birth. She was Jean/Jane CRAWFURD 1734-1827,
and, according to the notes of my Great grandfather, was the daughter of
Elizabeth WEMYSS and Alexander CRAWFORD of Crawford Priory near Cupar. Alexander
apparently returned unscathed from the Battle of Culloden to find the Duke of
Cumberland walking in his garden. The family dog gave away his hiding place in
the greenhouse and he was forced to flee the country. His wife died two years
later of a broken heart. The children were raised by her brother of Wemyss
Castle or Hall. (I can send you a copy of the family story if you are
interested.)
I have a copy of an original OPR Extract "Majory daughter lawful to Mr.
Alexander CRAFOORD in Westernewton and Mrs. --- WEEMYSS his spouse was baptised
in Westernewtonmill 30 January 1734, Parish of Kennoway, FIFE." Other children
were Helen CRAFOORD 1731-/ who married Robert DRYSDALE in 1755 in Kircaldy; John
CRAFOORD 1733; and Janet CRAFOORD.
I have an OPR Extract of the register of Banns and Marriage from the 17th
October 1669 (very difficult to read ... I could scan it for you to see if you
could make out more details): "16 Nov Contracted James WEYMESS of ------- wife
Margaret MELVILLE ---- -----".
I have another OPR Extract "On --- day James WEEMS and Margaret MELVIN had a
daughter baptised called Bethia. My Lord Elcho and Baillie William Johnston
witnesses" 22 May 1692.
I have the memorial inscription of Jane CRAWFORD and her husband John
JOHNSTON who are both buried in the Old Kirkconnel Churchyard in
Kirkpatrick-Fleming Dumfries, where Jean was sent to be a companion to Lady
Maxwell. I have read somewher that Lord Maxwell, a sympathizer to the Cause of
Prince Charlie, was a friend of Alexander CRAWFORD, though I cannot quote the
source of this info. Kirkconnel MI: "John JOHNSTONE who died Gaircroft 3rd Feb
1826 aged 92, Jane CRAWFORD, his spouse, who died Eaglesfield 16th Dec 1827 aged
94, Janet their daughter who died Gaircroft 5th May 1826 aged 67, John JOHNSTON
their son, who died Manchester 21st Nov 1853 aged 74, Margaret Cunningham, his
spouse who died Carlisle 26th May 1827, John their son, who died young".
Do you have any other data that might back up this info? I would be
interested in any info you may have. Cheers from Linda
