SWAYNE - Mr. Henry Wallace Swayne
(1800 -1877), from Dysart, Fife,
emigrated to Peru in
1824 representing
Swayne Reid & Co. of
Liverpool. He was the youngest son
of David Dalrymple Swayne and Cristina Davidson Wallace, proud
descendent of William Wallace, the National Hero of Scotland.
Henry Swayne was from Dysart an after emigrating to Peru established
both plantations (sugar cane, rum & cotton) and a family which
both continue to the present day. I have the genealogy of the Swayne
(Swynne) family of Dysart at
www.hammond.swayne.com.
It also has interesting stories of British immigrants to South
America in the nineteenth century. See also The Scottish Genealogist,

- BEVERIDGE
My Beveridge family came originally
from Fife, later Berwick-on-Tweed, from where they emigrated to
Australia in 1853. George Beveridge (b.1808 d.1870) and Isabella
(maiden name unknown) b 1815, and their sons John (b.1840 d. 1898)
and James b 1843 d 1928. They arrived
in Australia on the sailing ship Ann
Dashwood
in November 1853. There is a
claimed relationship with William Beveridge, the Lord Bishop of St.
Asaph (1637 - 1708), but I have no records to verify this. The two
daughters left behind when the family emigrated have disappeared - at
least they are not in the English 1851 census. I am assuming that
they were either in service over the border back in Scotland, or
maybe the elder of the two was married. Any help would be
appreciated. -

53 FERNIE I
am looking for the following surnames, probably around the Easter
Fernie region.: Fernay, Fernane,
Fernie. The
family emigrated to
Ireland, possibly in 18th century.
(1700's). The GENUKI Fife pages state: FERNIE: From the lands of
Fernie in the parish of Monimail, Fife. The name appears in the
Workman heraldic MS as "Fearnyne of that Ilk." William de Ferny was
juror on an inquest in Fife in 1390 . . . ." The reason I
think my forebear Mary Fernay, might be from Easter Fernie is that it
is the only place apparently where the name originated. I have
followed leads like this before and I have found other forebears.

IZATT Another Izatt
researcher reported: your John S.
Izatt was b & c 11 Dec 1837,
Dunfermline. His father was James Izatt or Izett, a
Sergeant in the Royal Marines in
1837. In 1842 he was at the Royal
Marines Barracks Woolwich, London and a Colour Sergeant. Maybe his
wife went home to Dunfermline for the birth, and then had another
christening ceremony back in Woolwich. John's middle name was
Sommerville
after his mothers maiden name. All the Scotish Izatts we have found
are from a small area to the north of Edinburgh, especially
Torryburn. Izatts have been prominent in
Dunfermline
life for many years: George Izatt was
Provost there in the 1940's; they

CADDEN
I have registered CADDEN with the Guild of One Name Studies and now
have 1500 names. The earliest Scot is
Thome
Caddon from
Monifeith, Angus in

ones - London area. The largest families were on the east
coast of Scotland, spreading westwards towards Glasgow and Argyll.
Now Caddens are in Ireland, Australia, and USA. As far as Fife is
concerned, I have Burntisland, Cameron, Dumfries, Dunfermline, Dysart
and Kirkpatrick listed. James Caddens m Elizabeth Reekie, whose
son, George, was my 2xgreat grandfather. I have been unable to trace
his birth but he had a sister Helen, b 1831 Dundee. George ended up
in Edinburgh, so it is possible that the family moved there before he
was born.

McQueen b 1817 both at Flisk. Agnes married
James
Clark at Forgan, 1824; they moved to
Kilrenny in 1832/3. I visualise her as the grand matriarch of the
family as many descendants were given the names Agnes McQueen. She
died 1864 in Crail; her parents were Farm Servants of
Ballinbreich, or
Barnbrick. One of her children is
Russell
after her sister. Both OPRs and Mort
Cloth Registers for Flisk/Forgan are lost. As there are very few
McQueens in Fife OPR's, they may be "weeld Heeland" folk staying
behind in Fife after the 1746 Culloden retreat; perhaps the Aviemore
area, Inverness has our McQueen ancestors.

James was a burgess and freeman of

engraved on his tombstone in Windsor, Nova Scotia so it is likely he
lived there for at least twenty years. John THOMSON was born near
