They arrived in Australia on the sailing ship Ann Dashwood  in November 1853. There is a claimed relationship with William Beveridge, the Lord Bishop of St. Asaph (1637 - 1708), but I have no records to verify this. The two daughters left behind when the family emigrated have disappeared - at least they are not in the English 1851 census. 53 FERNIE I am looking for the following surnames, probably around the Easter Fernie region.: Fernay, Fernane, Fernie. The family emigrated to Ireland, possibly in 18th century. (1700's). The GENUKI Fife pages state: FERNIE: From the lands of Fernie in the parish of Monimail, Fife. The name appears in the Workman heraldic MS as "Fearnyne of that Ilk." William de Ferny was juror on an inquest in Fife in 1390 . . . ."  The reason I think my forebear Mary Fernay, might be from Easter Fernie is that it is the only place apparently where the name originated. 47 IZATT  Another Izatt researcher reported: your John S. Izatt was b & c 11 Dec 1837, Dunfermline. His father was James Izatt or Izett, a Sergeant in the Royal Marines in 1837. Now Caddens are in Ireland, Australia, and USA. 29 SMITH SIM SIME OPR's say Ann b 1796 was the daughter of James Smith, crofter, and Ann Sim(e). We cannot understand why, how or when the Smiths came south to live around the Tay Valley, if she was born there. Ann's son wrote on her internment record when she died at his house in Dundee 1974 that she was born in Abernethy, Perthshire. Which place of birth is correct? Nothing was found in Abernethy about this, but there were Smiths and Sims in Abernethy and surrounding areas. We just cannot tie them together. There were Sims and Smiths in Kinross too. email John Beach  details 18-Feb-98
28 McQUEEN CLARK  William McQueen married Christian Coventry 1797 at Newburgh. Only two children found, eleven years apart: Agnes McQueen b 1806, Isabella Russel McQueen b 1817 both at Flisk. Agnes married James Clark at Forgan, 1824; they moved to Kilrenny in 1832/3. I visualise her as the grand matriarch of the family as many descendants were given the names Agnes McQueen. She died 1864 in Crail; her parents were Farm Servants of Ballinbreich, or Barnbrick. One of her children is Russell after her sister. Both OPRs and Mort Cloth Registers for Flisk/Forgan are lost. As there are very few McQueens in Fife OPR's, they may be "weeld Heeland" folk staying behind in Fife after the 1746 Culloden retreat; perhaps the Aviemore area, Inverness has our McQueen ancestors. email Keith Clark details 17-Feb-98
27 FYFE. Place of birth for Charles Fyfe is unknown; he went to Scone Palace as a stone mason in the 1790's and married Margaret Mudie in 1796. She was from Dundee so he had probably been there or nearby some time prior. I suspect he new her and went to Scone to prepare a stable financial environment for his intended.Since they married at Scone a split with her family is indicated also by the naming of children: John 1796 Janet 1797 David 1800 Charles 1802 Peter 1803 William 1805 Charles 1807 Margaret 1811 email Allan Fyfe  details 01-Feb-98
26 THOMSON KEIR  James was born 1773 Tulliallan Perthshire. A marriage was found in LDS files to a Christian Keir in Saline, Fife; I have not obtained the certificate. The person who gave the deposition stating James was a burgess and freeman of Dunfermline said he had known of him as such for "a term of years". "James THOMSON of Dunfermline" was engraved on his tombstone in Windsor, Nova Scotia so it is likely he lived there for at least twenty years. John THOMSON was born near Dunfirmline but my only record states he did not accompany his family to Nova Scotia: it is more likely John Thomson was a lifelong resident of Dunfermline.
