114 BEVERIDGE - I am researching the surname Beveridge from the Dunfermline, Fife area. My great-grandfather was James Beveridge born 12-2-1885 to Robert Beveridge and Isabella Smith. Robert was born 1813 to Robert Beveridge and Agnes Wilson. This Robert was born to either a William or Charles Beveridge. Can anyone help me out with this? 112 COWPERTHWAITE..Jane Gare COWPERTHWAITE died in Newburgh, Fife in 1865, as did John James COWPERTHWAITE (? her father-in-law). Her husband James was a ship master and their marriage took place in Tynemouth,Northumberland in 1841. Mary Jane COWPERTHWAITE was born and died in 1862 in Newburgh. My ancestor, William COWPERTHWAITE, was born in 1856 in North Shields. Were there any more children? Possibly Methodists. Family eventually settled in Dundee. 107 TULLIS - I am researching my branch of the TULLIS Family as well as building up a full database on ALL the TULLIS in Fife as well as the rest of Scotland.The earliest certain TULLIS in my branch of the family is John TULLIS who married Agnes SEATH in Leuchars Fife on 30 Jul 1726. 106 TULLIS SYME - I am searching Charles TULLIS from Kettle and Margaret SYME from Kirkcaldy; they were married in 1840, residence-Haughfield. His occupation is listed as farmer. 103 WEBSTER IMRIE HERD Andrew Webster was born 19 Jan 1777 in Coaltown of Callenge, Ceres, Fife. He married ANN IMRIE 27 Jan 1814 in Dunino, Scotland, daughter of LAURENCE IMRIE and ELIZABETH HERD; she was born 15 Sep 1795 in Dunino, Fife. Andrew was the youngest child surviving infancy; his siblings were James & John. The Cupar Library BMD fiche has an entry :- Ceres Parish - Andrew Webster b Jan 16 1777, son to James Webster and Mary Pride in the coal town of Callange bapt 19 Jan 1777. The children of ANDREW WEBSTER and ANN IMRIE are: Andrrew b 1815 Ceres, Laurence b 1818 Scoonie, James b 1819 Dysart & ELizabeth b 1820 Scoonie. 102 MATHER FLEMING   I am seeking any information on Alexander MATHER, born December 14, 1756, Anstruther Easter, Fife. Parents, David Mather, born Feb 7, 1715 Bretchen, Angus and Elizabeth Fleeming , born August 7, 1720, Anstruther Easter, Fife. I know Alexander was in New York State by 1790 but do not know when he left Fife. Father David may have been a surgeon. 101 GRIEG HORNE - In 1849, John Greig, b 1815 Kirkaldy Dysart, sailed to Sydney on the Agenora in 1849 with his wife Margaret and their four children, Isabella 13, Agnes 11, John 8 and Margaret 3, (all c Abbotshall). His wife Margaret was the daughter of Henry and Isabella Burrell, Dunfermline. John Greig's parents were John & Agnes Horne. In 1852-3 John Greig was lured to Ballarat by the gold rush. He left his family in Sydney, although his daughter Isabella married Duncan McMillan in Sydney in 1853: they appear to have travelled with John. Greig and McMillan established a group of tents on a hill overlooking the Speciman Creek in Ballarat. In nearby Eureka there was the Battle of Eureka - an uprising by the miners against the government police over gold licenses. Young Agnes Greig's eyewitness account of this battle is considered quite important. The Fifers listed were not my forebears, but were some of many who settled in the area. 99 HARROWER HEMPSEED HALL My great-great Grandfather John Harrower was born about 1831, Torryburn, Fife. A John Gordon Lorimer Harrowar who may well be the same person was born 3rd May 1829 also in Torryburn. His father  Robert Harrowar was born 1792 in Torryburn. Robert Harrowar was married to Janet Hempseed on 23rd May 1828 in Torryburn. They had at least four children John, James, Robert and Daniel John Harrower's wife Elizabeth Hall was born around 1821 in the parish of Tulliallan (as per her son John's birth certif & 1881 census). 98 CRICHTON David Crichton married Margaret Younger in Kirkcaldy, Fife, 1842. They had four children that I know of: Catherine c.1843 - Alexander c.1850 - Isabella c.1850 - James Younger c.1852. Isabella Crichton sailed to Victoria, Australia and married a  Martin ROSS in 1864. I believe Alexander & James might also have sailed to Australia, but I don't know what happened to the rest of the family. 97 MATTHEW - John Engels Matthew b 1829, Cupar, Fife became a carpenter and married Euphemia Matthew [her maiden name apparently the same as her husband] b1831,Cupar, Fife - They arrived in Australia on the  Athletoe, Feb. 1855, with their 2 children Euphemia and Jessy/Janet Simpson. 96 SANG, BINNY - Edward Sang, born about 1773 near Montrose, came to Kirkcaldy to set up a nursery and seedsman's business. He also became Provost of Kirkcaldy and died in 1862; the firm carried on until 1964. Edward's daughter Mary Sang married John Sang, a lawyer in Edinburgh. John Sang was the son of George Sang and Elizabeth Wilkie of Tannadice in Angus.John's sisters Mary and Agnes married two brothers, Thomas and David Binny. David and Agnes' son David Binny married Thomas and Mary's granddaughter Margaret Binny who is my forebear. 95 DUNN Melnithorne (or Milnithorne) may be near Kirkaldy; it is given as Ann's former place of residence on the Australian Immigration Board's list for the vessel James Gibb arriving Sydney 15th June 1849. Ann's father, James Dunn, was living at Dunfermline in 1849. Her husband, John Davidson, was born in Kircaldy, and her accompanying children are described as: Betsy b Kincaine Perth (sic), - 13 years; David b 1843 Dunfermline, 6 years; Mary b 1845 Dunfermline, 4 years - all ages in 1849. Betsy is not John's child: her surname is unknown. Unable to trace any of the children in Australia: they probably had surnames other than Dunn or Davidson. Ann travelled as Ann Davidson, but actually married John in Sydney after arrival. She died at Campbelltown NSW 1855: John then married Elizabeth King. John and Elizabeth were my great -grandparents. Pittenweem and Cupar; was a goaler at Cupar for many years; he married Janet/Jannet TAYLOR, (born abt 1741) after 1789; had children bapt. Pittenweem and Cupar. Their daughter Ann Lowden m. 91 McLAREN - In the 1881 census John MacLaren's daughter Janet, b 1871, was living at home with her parents in Markinch; she died in 1939, Markinch. 90DICKSON, Margaret   In 1841 she was 29, born in Fife (per census). When she married William RUMGAY in 1828 in AUCHTERMUCHTY, the parish register referred to her as "of COLLESSIE". Her last child, Ann, baptized Jan 1848 in ORWELL, Kinross, - no special notes in the baptismal record. Her husband is listed (1851 census, ABERNETHY) as a widower. Places of burial have not been found: this family is absent in both West & East Fife pre-1855 Monumental Inscription book; nor are there death announcements in Fife newspapers. 89 CURROR My grandfather was William Walker Curror (born 1865; became a tea planter in India, d 1918). His siblings were: Eliza Kilgour - married Edward Mortimer of Inverugie and had 8 children:
Robert - we think he was a writer and may have not married; Agnes Ann - married David Alexander and had 6 children; David Andrew - he may have died in 1929; Margaret Walker - married William Hasler of the Croft, Dummon in Essex and had 5 children; Michael Beveridge - she may not have married; John - possibly a tea planter. THEIR parents were David Curror (married Eliza Morgan), who in turn was descended from Robert Curror (married Agnes Beveridge) born in 1715 of Dunduff and Craigdookie in Scotland. 88 HUNTER - SCOTT - John HUNTER was born in the late 1700s, somewhere in Scotland, so my family history relates. His daughter Mary HUNTER marrioed John SCOTT about 1830, probably in Largo, Fife. 87 THOMSON - George THOMSON, b. abt 1768, probably Fife married Janet McKATHIE, b. abt 1775, Scotland; Their children were William c. 28 Aug 1794, Abbotshall; Margaret b. 24 Mar 1796; - George McKathie, c. 16 Jan 1800 David THOMSON-944, b. 15 Mar 1803, all c in Abbotshall. The above William (c 1794) married Isabella HEPBURN on 5 Dec 1798, Linktown,Abbotshall; their childreen were Andrew, Agnes, George, Andrew, James, & Janet (all c Abbotshall). 86 RAMSAY John Ramsay, son of Robert and Janet Ramsay, (also a sawyer), died in Newburgh, Fife in 1858. His death certificate reveals he was born in Edinburgh. His sister, Jean Thornton Ramsay, after whom his daughter and two generations after that my mother were named, was born in Monimail in 1785, definitely same parents. Why was there a move to Fife, and when? Was Robert Ramsay originally from Fife? His wife's family, Hislop and Hadden/Halden, were established in Edinburgh and Midlothian in the late seventeenth century. - email Lyn Moir details 28-Feb-99
85 MATTHEW - Margaret Matthew, daughter of Mr Matthew married Peter Nicol (of Newburgh) in Cupar on 18 Oct 1772 Her father was given as "Mr. Matthew, tobacconist, Cupar, deceased". Mother married again and kept the shop on, under new husband's name (not known). 83 NICOLSON: I can trace my roots back to Pittenweem in Fife in the 1770 s. At that time, five male Nicolsons suddenly appear in the parish register:-
1 John Nicolson and Elspit Chapman, having Christian 1779, John 1781 (my ancestor) and Robert 1783
2 Robert Nicolson and Anne Duff, having Mary 1779
3 James Nicolson and Margaret Pearson, having George Haliburton 1779, James and Margaret 1782, and Robert (1785)
4 Rev. George Haliburton Nicolson and Anne Chalmers, having Bethia Anne 1779 and Charles 1781
5 Alexander Nicolson and Jean Morton, having Alexander and Jean 1776, Anne Chalmers 1778, Christian 1780, and Thomas 1782
   The commonality of names between these five families strongly suggests that they were all related - but where did they all come from?  Earlier marriages were Robert Nicolson m. Janet Haliburton in Edinburgh on 15 Nov 1735, then James Nicolson m. Janet Haliburton in Edinburgh on 8 Nov 1741, and James Nicolson m. Janet Haliburton in Banchory Devenick on 11 Nov 1741. George Haliburton Nicolson c. 21 Apr 1745 in Banchory Devenick, father was James Nicolson did he become ordained and move to Fife? -

82 AUCHTERLONIE - William was born asnd Christened in Auchtermuchty 1848; in 1879 he married Mary McGOLDRICH in Stanley Perthshire; un the 1851 census William was living with Thomas GOODALL, his grandfather at Upper Greens, Auchtermuchty -  Pauline McIntyre.... - details - 24-Fe-99.
80 ROBB RINTOUL HENDERSON - David ROBB b 1807 Kinross, son of John ROBB ROBE McROBB and Christian RINTOUL. David, a tailor and later a spirits dealer in Kirkcaldy, married Christian HENDERSON 1832 at Abbotshall. 78 MASON CUNNINGHAM CARSTAIRS My great, great grandfather and Steve Wakelys's g. g. grandfather were twin boys (plus 10 other children) born to ANDREW MASON and AGNES CUNNINGHAM, m Kemback, Fife 1795. Steve has a home page at http//www.rpi.net.au/~swakely/. His g.g.gradfather was PETER WEBSTER MASON who married MARGARET CARSTAIRS, 29 October 1842. 77- WEEMS WEEMYS - Captain William Weems/Weemys commanded the sailing ship Thane of Fife  on a single recorded voyage, per the ship lists recorded in PA, USA. German Pioneers, which embarked immigrant Germans at Amsterdam, Holland, then travelled to Aberdeen, Scotland, and then arrived 7 Nov 1741 at Philadelphia PA. My immigrant ancestor, Adam Kerchner, arrived on this voyage. Researching the vessel Thane of Fife regarding the passenger Adam Kerchner who was on board during 1741 voyage to Pennsylvania. 76 BEATTIE - ELDER - Searching descendents of Andrew Beattie (b Leslie 1766) and Agness Elder (b Inverkeithing 1769). They were married in Abbotshall in 1793 and produced 9 children in the following 21 years. 73 SUTHERLAND - ROSS: William SUTHERLAND was born abt 1819 Newburgh: no baptism found. When His marriage record to Janet ROSS in 1845 in Cupar state he was from 'New Grange' parish and she from Cupar. The 1841 Cupar census is missing: they were not there in 1851. By 1855 they were in Edinburgh, Midlothian. I have found one son, - John SUTHERLAND, b Cupar abt 1850,but no trace of any others until 1855 when Peter SUTHERLAND was born.
