INGLIS
It has been said:
three strong working men named
Inglis from England or Ireland emerged out of the mists of
time at Carslogie March,
near Cupar, in 1580. However the oldest
named
Inglis I have is Robert Inglis, miller at Russell Mill, Springfield,
and proprietor of part of Bondfield, Cupar. His dates are 1609-1690.
I have no record of his wife's name and I have only the direct
descendency from him through the next two generations - then more
detail from 1712 onwards. All this (and details of his mother's
family, the McClellands, Broadfoots and Hannays of Galloway and
Wigtownshire) was put down on paper by Edinburgher
Charles Simson
Inglis in about 1850/60. There are
also some of Charles' journal in the National Library of Scotland.
Any further information?

- MASON/BAYNE -
MATTHEW/THOMSON - James Mason was
born somewhere in Fife about 1815; he emigrated to the US about 1850;
his mother's maiden name was probably Bayne. He married Agnes
Matthew, chr 5 Apr 1812, Kennoway parish; they were married 8 Nov
1838, also in Kennoway. Agnes' parents were Thomas Matthew and
Margaret Thomson. James and Agnes had seven children -five in
Scotland; Margaret b.1839 Thomas b. 1840, James Bayne ( my great
grandfather) b. 1846, Isabel, his twin ,also born 1846, and Robert b.
1848. Two more children were born in the US after emigrating; John b
Illinois 1853, Nancy Jane b Nebraska 1856. Two records seem to fit
the Baynes/Mason needs: James MASON md Christian BAYE 7 Apr 1811 -
Ceres, Fife. - (a guess) or: James MASON chr 8 May 1814 Newburgh,
Fife, parents Thomas MASON, & Isabel BAYNE. Another guess: My
James and Agnes had twins, James Bayne Mason (my gggrandfather), and
his twin Isabel on 1/23/1846. It seems possible to me that they named
the twins for James' mother Isabel Bayne. -

FOWLER - From my family oral
tradition, two Fowler brothers James
and Andrew, arrived in Jamaica in
the late 1700s, settling in
Trelawny.
From Jamaican records, Fowlers had 2 slaves, Edward and Sarah Fowler,
both baptised (C of E) in the early 1790s. James and Andrew show up
both in property records and in baptisms of illegitimate children
(from slaves or free coloured women). James also had legitimate
children baptised on the island, the first, John, in 1796. James is
my ggg grandfather. I don't know which part of the UK James and
Andrew came from: of the 2 James/Andrew Fowler brothers born in
Britain from the mid- to later 1700s (per IGI) both pairs came from
Fife : Andrew (b 1753) and James (b 1761) in Kilrenny Fife to Thomas
Fowler and Margaret Robertson. James (b 1752) and Andrew (b 1757) in
Dunino and Crail respectively, to James Fowler and Catherine
Stevenson (or Stephenson). I suspect that the Kilrenny Fowlers are
the likely ones.-
