CRAWFURD. Jean/Jane CRAWFURD
1734-1827, according to the notes of my Great grandfather, was the
daughter of Elizabeth WEMYSS and Alexander CRAWFORD of Crawford
Priory near Cupar. Alexander apparently returned unscathed from the
Battle of Culloden
to find the
Duke of
Cumberland walking in his garden.
The family dog gave away his hiding place in the greenhouse and he
was forced to flee the country. His wife died two years later of a
broken heart. The children were raised by her brother of Wemyss
Castle. A copy of the family story is available. I have a copy
of the OPR Extract "Majory daughter lawful to Mr. Alexander Crafoord
in Westernewton and Mrs. --- WEEMYSS his spouse was baptised in
Westernewton Mill 30 January 1734, parish of Kennoway, FIFE." Other
children were Helen Crafoord 1731- who married Robert Drysdale in
1755 in Kircaldy; John Crafoord 1733; and Janet Crafoord. -

Kirkwall Orkney. Daughter Margaret Dawson 25/5/1895 born Edinburgh. I
would like any information on first marriage children. I don't
believe David and Jessie had any other children, it is difficult to
establish David on census without details of first marriage. He had

He was also the strongest man in Fife at one time! My grandfather,

PRATT DINGWALL - My great
grandfather Alexander Pratt was born in Cupar on November 2,1851;
oral family history suggests farming in Pitlessie. A silver tea
service, passed down through the family, is said to have been
presented to a family member by William IV for
improving a strain of
cattle. Alexander's parents may have
been George Pratt and Jessie Smith. I do not know when Alexander
Pratt came to Canada; by 1878 he owned a grist mill in Cobourg,
Ontario. I'm interested in any information. There seems to have been
some kind of connection with a family named Dingwall. These Pratts
were Presbyterians.

YOUNG JAMIESON HYND
- I do not know when (or where)
Isabel YOUNG & George JAMIESON married, though the children's
birthdates suggest 1814. I suspect that George may be the son of
Alexander JAMIESON & Jean (Eupheam?) HYND who had many children
(though no George that I have found) in Newburgh, Fife with several
also christened in Auchermuchty. George's brother, William JAMIESON,
was my ggg grandfather & he married in 1810 in Brechin, Angus but
I don't know his birthplace & hence my hope that I can track him
through George. The naming pattern for the families of William &
George do imply that their father was Alexander. The JAMIESON family
probably came to Fife via Alyth, Perth & may originate in
Moray. My family tree back to the William JAMIESON above is at
http://irwin.net.nz.
I have only just found this connection via the will of my William's
unmarried daughter Christina JAMIESON who mentioned her cousins - (in
our family) - Henry Gardiner, Mary and Jane JAMIESON.

WALKER PITCAIRN
My grandfather,
Thomas Pitcairn
Walker was born in Edinburgh in
1914. His Maternal grandfather was Andrew Walker born 1860 in
Edinburgh, 4th child of 10 to Robert Walker & Sarah Wood both
born 1833 Edinburgh. Andrew Walker married Agnes Pitcairn, born 1871
in Dunfermline, 2nd child of 2 to Thomas Pitcairn and Eliza Marshall.
Thomas & Eliza are thought to have run a pub in Reform Street
Dunfermline (now part of Carnegie Drive) but I have no other
information about the families except that Thomas died in 1873 and at
some stage Eliza and the two young children moved to
Edinburgh. There is a ruined house near Leslie known as
Pitcairn
House, and also that the
Pitcairn
Islands were named after
Captain Robert
Pitcairn who first spotted them from
the crow's nest. Naturally he wants me to trace the family back to
these two romantic places - he is 86 and feels he is running out of
time to find the answers!! So, my query is how, from the south
of England, do I go about finding who was running Dunfermline pubs in
the 1860s/70s?
