Church History

The church proudly proclaims origins stretching back to the 11th. century but the first known mention is in 1150 when Gospatrick, 1st Earl of Dunbar gifted the church of Foghaw to the monks of Kelso Abbey. The tiny church contains two laird's lofts, reached by exterior stairways. There are boxed pews, pews east and west facing the middle of the church and more pews occupying the south transept and facing north. The pulpit, underneath a canopy, so typical of a Scottish Kirk is situated centrally on the south wall facing the organ on the north wall.
