The church was built slightly north of South Leith parish Church in 1775, although the congregation can be traced to a split from South Leith in around 1740.
The premises were sold in 1887 (becoming a theatre) with the congregation moving to new premises in nearby Henderson Street (Listed seperately in this database).
Dunlop's "The Kirks of Edinburgh" (Scottish Record Society, Edinburgh 1988) provides a clear history of the congregation.
