Bishopton
"BISHOPTON, village, mansion, and hill-ridge in Renfrewshire. The
village stands 5 3/4 miles north-west of Paisley, and has a post office under
Glasgow, a railway station, and a public school with about 50 scholars. Pop.280.
-- The mansion stands on the adjacent hill-side, commands
a charming view, and was once the rural seat of the Archbishop of Glasgow. -- The
hill-ridge separates the Clyde from the low land of Gryfesdale, and is pierced by a
long tunnel of the Glasgow and Greenock Railway."
