Reginald Lomas formed the Church in 1921 after leaving the ministry of Windsor Road Congregational Church over a disagreement with the Church authorities .... over 80 members went with him and formed their own "Christian Fellowship" which was formally constituted in 1921.... first meetings were held in the Masonic Hall, Broad Street. ....... moved to the Garden Suburb Institute .....bought a plot of land .... on which to build a Church. ...... 1926 was the year when Christians were celebrating the 7th century of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, and it was then that the Christian Fellowship changed its name to St. Francis-on-the Hill.................... Residents of the Suburb now use the building as a community centre......."
