SUCCESSFUL CONCERT AT KNELSTON, GOWER. One of the most brilliant entertainments of the many that have taken place in this district within the last few years came off on Tuesday evening at the Board Schoolroom for the United District of Reynoldstone, on behalf of the funds of the Swansea Hospital. The artistes volunteered their services for this praiseworthy object. Dr. H. Rawlings, of Reynoldstone, was the moving spirit in conceiving and bringing to maturity this treat to the Gower people and in furthering the benevolent efforts of those connected with an institution that has been of such incalculable benefit to the indigent poor of this great and important county. All people who thus contribute to alleviate suffering can truly be designated humanitarians and cannot be too deeply thanked.       ....(part extract)....

EISTEDDFOD AT KNELSTON, GOWER. DR. RAWLINGS' CHOIR LEADS THE WAY. [BY A GOWER BOY.] An eisteddfod was held at Knelston on Tuesday, and it proved a grand success. Although the weather was boisterous, people flocked in from all directions, and the room was packed. ............... KNELSTON EISTEDDFOD.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE CAMBRIAN."

SIR,-Anyone going to the above eisteddfod with their ears closed might have come to the conclusion, on reading the report of it as given by Gower Boy in last issue, that Reynoldstone party had won for themselves a name which they would strive to hand down to their posterity, and that their most excellent leader would at once be the recipient of some monstre testimonial to be borne over his shoulders, bearing presents from every member of the party, a number of which would dazzle one's eyes by day, and the remainder containing some jiggling trinkets, so that he would be recognised not only at day light, but would be known in pitch dark night, and other prominent members of the choir would, no doubt, wear some visible emblem of the great victory. Notably, that young tenor, who, as the adjudicator remarked, deserved the prize, because it was the first time in six successive competitions he had managed to get through his piece without a break down or break up. Then, again, the Higher Green basso, who, no doubt, would have taken first prize if the platform had been made large enough for him, and that the promising young soprano would be sent at once, at the expense of the party, to the Royal Academy of Music, etc., etc. But to those who listened to the various competitions, the report of Gower Boy can be looked upon only as a display of his selfishness and ignorance by which he has held up his party as a laughing-stock for the country, and greatly damaged the future prospects of the eisteddfod.      ....(part extract)....
