Glais in the Swansea Valley
From Slaters Commercial Directory, 1871
Transcribed by Phil Mustoe
Glais is a village with a station on the
Swansea Vale Railway, distant half a mile from Clydach.
Here are the extensive works, belonging to the Ynispenllwch
Tin Plate Company, under the management of Richard Thomas,
esq., Ynispenllwch,
the residence of that gentleman, is a very elegant mansion,
in its own grounds, which are in close proximity to the
works, and surrounded by trees bounded on one side by the
river Tawe; from the house and grounds may be seen the
hills for a long distance
on one side of the valley. There is a Baptist chapel here.
