"SOUTHERNDOWN is a small seaside watering place, on the Bristol Channel, in this parish, 5 miles south from Bridgend, and 2½ from Southerndown Road station on the Great Western railway. There is a Church of England mission room, and an 18-hole golf course on Ogden Down. The Dunraven Hotel is now the “Rest,’ Southerndown, in connection with the “Rest,’ Porthcawl; it has 60 beds for women and children."
