In 1868, the parish of St George Super Ely contained the following places:
"ST. GEORGE SUPER ELY, a parish in the hundred of Dinas Powis, county Glamorgan, South Wales, 5 miles W. of Cardiff. It is situated on the river Ely, and includes the hamlet of Drope. The Flemings formerly had a castle here. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Llandaff, value £124. There are some small charities.
"DROPE, a village in the parish of St. George super Ely, in the county of Glamorgan, 4 miles S.W. of Llandaff."
