hundred"LLANVIHANGEL - PENBEDW (LLAN-VIHAN-GEL-PENBEDW), a parish in the hundred of KÎLGERRAN, county of PEMBROKE, SOUTH WALES, 5 miles (S.S.E.) from Cardigan, containing 353 inhabitants. This parish, which is but of inconsiderable extent, derives its name from the dedication of its church to St. Michael, and the distinguishing adjunct to it from the number of fine birch trees growing in the vicinity. It is pleasantly situated in the north-eastern part of the county, and near the source of the river Nevern, which, after flowing through the parish, continues its course in a westerly direction, and falls into the sea at Newport. The lands are all enclosed and in a good state of cultivation; and the surrounding scenery is agreeably diversified. Kîlrhue, the property of Thomas Lloyd, of Bronwydd, Esq., and now the residence of Dr. Morgan, is a good mansion, pleasantly situated in grounds tastefully laid out, and comprehending an agreeable variety of pleasing scenery. The old road leading from Carmarthen to Cardigan passes through the village. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Cardigan, and diocese of St.David's, rated in the king's books at £6, and in the patronage of the King, as Prince of Wales. The church is not remarkable for any peculiar architectural details. There is a place of worship for Baptists. The average annual expenditure for the maintenance of the poor is £76. 15."
