The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Whitchurch contained the following places:

"WHITCHURCH, a parish in the hundred of Dewisland county Pembroke, 3 miles E. of St. David's. The parish includes the post-office village and small port of Solva, or Solfach, situated under the cliffs at the mouth of the Solfach river, which here falls into St. Bride's Bay. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of St. David's, value £110, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is dedicated to St. David's."

"LLANWNWAS, a hamlet in the parish of Whitchurch, hundred of Dewisland, county Pembroke, 3 miles E. of St. David's. Here are several Druidical stones."

"SOLVA, (or Solfach), a village in the parish of Whitchurch, county Pembroke, 3 miles S.E. of St. David's, on St. Bride's Bay, under the cliffs at the mouth of the Sowa river, which flows 8 miles S.W. of Llanreithion. It is a sub-port to Milford. The inhabitants are chiefly engaged in the coasting trade.
