It was founded in 1845. It closed in 1959.

The church closed in 1959 but was demolished in 1964 due to subsidence. In the period in between the closure of the old and the opening of the new, the local, empty, Grand Cinema on Oldham Road was purchased, altered and consecrated for use for Worship.
