Help and advice for Largo, Fife
So you are having problems researching your family history. This is something that we all suffer from, and one of the best ways of getting help is to join a Family History Society. Fife is served by two Societies.
Please DO NOT send your problems to, or ask research advice from, the Fife page maintainer, as he has neither the detailed local knowledge that you require, nor the time to provide such a service.
A useful way of contacting others researching your surname(s) of interest is to search the Roots Surnames List, which has international coverage.
The other source or place to look is the surname lists that individuals maintain for particular locations. Have a look at the Kingdom of Fife Surnames List.
You can of course also submit your own surname interests to these lists. You should also check to see if anyone is conducting a "One-Name" study on your surname(s) of interest. The Guild of One Name Studies (GOONS) provides a Register of One-Name Studies.
If you want to supply information about your own family, or a link to your family web page, then I'm sorry but you're out of luck. We are trying to provide information that will interest most users, and that would tend to be swamped by personal information. Links to personal pages are also a maintenance nightmare, as experience has shown that they change URLs or disappear quite frequently. I suggest you use the surname lists for this purpose.
Now if that hasn't put you off, it is quite likely that you may have some information or know some basic facts that will be of use to other people. If you have anything relating to Largo and would like to make it available to others, then please get in touch using the form below. It may be something you have written, or some out-of-copyright material that you have transcribed that you think may be of interest - or just some little piece of information such as the name of a book about Largo, the name of a local history society or similar society web page that we should link to. But please do remember, we are not looking for family-specific material, just material of general interest.
For example look at pages such as Dunfermline or Dysart. That's bound to give you some ideas of what can be provided. In particular I need to know the basic items, which frequently need a bit of local knowledge, for example:
- Is there more information held in a local library which isn't listed here?
- Are there any other estate records known for Largo?
- Are there any other census indexes or lists of monumental inscriptions, and who publishes them? If they exist but aren't published, where do you find them?
- Is there a local history or other society that may have relevant information?
- Have any books been published about Largo?
- Then there are details of what other useful records exist, have they been published, etc.
So if you have any of this information, and it's not currently on one of the Fife pages, then do let us know on the form at the bottom of the page.
If you have information to contribute, or you have found a problem on any of the Fife pages, then please report it on the following form.
