Description and Travel

For much of its history, Borthertoft was a chapel of ease for the parish of Kirton. In official records it is recorded as a township and not a chapel. The parish covers about 1,800 acres.

Poorhouses, Poor Law, etc.

• In 1666, Thomas MABLESON bequeathed the rent from 23 acres of land in Wyberton and Kirton for the poor of Brothertoft.
  
  
• As a result of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act, this parish became part of the Boston Poor Law Union.
