Church History

• The Anglican parish church is dedicated to St. Helen.
  
  
• The church was rebuilt in 1852.

Description and Travel

North Elkington is both a village and a parish near Louth. The parish covers almost 1,300 acres. (Early directory entries give the parish only 991 acres of land.)

• By automobile, take the A631 west out of Louth and pass through South Elkington. Turn right after about 2 miles and follow the road into North Elkington.

Names, Geographical

• Ekwall's "Concise Oxford Dictionary of English Place-Names" (4th Edition, 1977), tells us that Elkington is mentioned in the Domesday Book: "Alchinton", and the name is cited in c1115 "Helchingtuna", 1205 "Northalkinton" and 1209 "Sudhelkinton".
