- The church, built of stone, was built around 1340 and replaced an earlier church on the site.

Tetford is both a village and a parish in the Wolds hills, 6.5 miles northeast of Horncastle, 10 miles south of Louth and eight miles northwest of Spilsby. Worlaby parish lies to the north and Somersby parish to the south. The parish covers about 1,730 acres.
Tetford village is in a shallow valley. A tributary of the River Steeping passes near the village. If you are planning a visit:
- The parish contains traces of ancient encampments thought to be from Saxon times. It is reputed to be the site where Raengeires, a Briton, defeated the Saxon general Horsa in a great battle.
- In 1841, the parish was noted for its fertilizer production (from burnt limestone).
- Dr Richard Harper-Smith wrote "Paupers, Priests and People of Tetford", published by R. Harper Smith, 2001.
- The national grid reference is TF 3374.
- You'll want an Ordinance Survey Explorer 273 map, which has 2.5 inches to the mile scale.

- The parish was in the ancient Hill Wapentake (Hill Hundred) in the East Lindsey district and parts of Lindsey.
- Kelly's 1913 Directory of Lincolnshire notes the parish, perhaps erroneously, as being in the South Lindsey district of the county.

- In 1784, Edward RICHARDSON gave a cottage and about 7 acres of land towards teaching the poor children of Tetford and Salmonby.
- As a result of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act, the parish became part of the Horncastle Poor Law Union.

- The Edward Richardson Primary School was founded via a bequest from Edward Richardson's will in 1714. The school is on East Road, Tetford, Lincolnshire LN9 6QQ, Telephone: 01507 533686.
- A National School was built here in 1821 and enlarged in 1897 and 1899 to hold up to 140 children.
- A School Board was formed in Feb., 1877.
