HOUSEHAM was presented by the merchants attending the Corn Exchange, with a handsome and useful arm chair, Mrs Househam receiving at the same time a coffee and tea pot. | 26th January 1900 | Swineshead: Miss Elizabeth ATKIN, who has recently resigned her post as Assistant Mistress of COWLEY´S Endowed School, was presented by Reverend Canon HOLMES with a handsome electro-silver teapot and a lamp on Monday, by the Teachers and Scholars. | 26th January 1900 | Grimsby: Last week the Mayor, (Alderman W SOUTHWORTH), at the Grimsby Custom House, presented a certificate to Customs Officer John HODGKINSON for Bravery in saving the life of a newsboy named McOLIVE on the 22nd September 1899. The lad was flung into the water at the Grimsby Royal Dock during very boisterous weather, and Hodgkinson jumped in after him and held him up until an ambulance arrived and both were landed. | LINCOLN, RUTLAND & STAMFORD MERCURY |
| 26th January 1900 | Brigg Local News: Mrs LARDER, who on Friday attained the age of 90 years, was on that day waited upon by a deputation from the Wesleyan body at Brigg and presented with a written congratulatory address. The deputation consisted of Messrs J RANDS: J H CROSS, J H HENDERSON and H STAMP. The address referred to the assistance which has always been given to the Wesleyan community in Brigg by Mrs Larder, and also the past services of her husband, the late Mr John Larder. | 7th April 1900 | Golden Wedding: Mr and Mrs Robert BEECHAM of Albion Street, Spalding, celebrated their Golden Wedding last Saturday, having been married at Pinchbeck on March 31st 1850. A friend writing of them said, ´They both stand for sturdy examples of honest, straightforward English characters - independent, fearless and strong, rough, mayhap, but that is better than smooth deceit´. | 9th May 1903 | Alford: On Friday Sergeant EVERITT, who has had 33 years, four months´ service in the Constabulary, was presented with a handsome marble time-piece by the members of the Alford force on his retirement. | 25th July 1903 | Boston: Miss Alice GILLIATT, eldest daughter of the late Mr William Gilliatt, chemist of Boston, has passed the minor examination of the Pharmaceutical Society. She was awarded two Medals at the South London School for Pharmacy, where she was a student, one for Dispensing and one for Chemistry. | 1st August 1903 | Diamond Wedding: On Monday last Mr and Mrs Enoch BARWICK of 120 West Street, Boston, celebrated their Diamond Wedding. Mr BARWICK has been a prominent member of St James Church since it was built about 40 years ago. He was appointed a Sidesman when the church was opened and was elected a Churchwarden about five years ago. He is also a Steward of the Boston Building Society, which position he has held for about 30 years. Mr and Mrs BARWICK have resided at 120 West St. for 43 years. It is interesting to note that both Mr and Mrs BARWICK will be 86 years old early next year. In honour of the event several of their most intimate friends were entertained on Monday evening by Mr and Mrs BARWICK who have received many congratulations upon the celebration of their Diamond Wedding. | BOSTON GUARDIAN |
| 12th September 1903 | The Board of Trade has received through the Foreign Office, London a silver cup for Mr Arthur SMITH, Master of the steam trawler ´Stratton´ of Grimsby, awarded to him by the King of Denmark in recognition of his services for rescuing the crew of an Icelandic fishing boat from the Westmanna Islands, in April this year. | THE HORNCASTLE NEWS |
| 10th October 1903 | Golden Wedding of Mr and Mrs Alfred HOBSON: On Tuesday Mr and Mrs HOBSON of Haverfield, Spalding, celebrated their Golden Wedding. They were married at the Parish Church, Spalding on October 6th 1853 by the late Reverend Dr MOORE, and it is an interesting fact that they have spent practically the whole of their lives in Spalding. Mr HOBSON was born in 1830, the son of the late Mr William HOBSON, and has been for many years the head of the well-known drapery firm of Hobson & Company. The name of HOBSON has been prominently connected with the commercial, religious and philanthropic life of Spalding for several centuries and Mr HOBSON has worthily maintained the traditions of a highly esteemed and useful family. Mr HOBSON is a senior deacon of the Congregational Church, Spalding, with which his family have been actively involved ever since its inauguration. Mrs HOBSON was born at Navenby in 1832 and was the daughter of the late Mr Joseph ALLEN of the Market Place, Spalding. Mr and Mrs HOBSON - both of whom we are pleased to say are in fairly good health - have been the recipients of a large number of touching tokens of esteem from friends who have known them well during the whole of their married life, from past and present employees and from neighbours and friends who have held them in very high regard. | 7th January 1908 | A JANUARY HARVEST: The almost unprecedented sight of harvesting corn crops in January was seen in Lincolnshire on Saturday. Several fields of wheat, barley and oats in the Branston Fen, have been sold by auction as they stood in the fields. A Heckington miller purchased the cropping, and the frozen condition of the land enabled him to use the reaper with such good effect that the bulk of corn was gathered in on Saturday. | 14th March 1908 | Obituary: The inhabitants of Dowsby district will learn with regret of the death of Mr W BROMLEY; which took place in Heber City, Utah, USA on the 14th ultimo. The deceased who was born at Dowsby on 21st September 1819 married Miss Sarah BULLIMORE and they emigrated to America in 1865. His wife died in 1877.
