Such a noble anniversary has naturally brought them many presents and congratulations from neighbours and friends and also a special message from their Majesties, the King and Queen. | THE SPALDING FREE PRESS |
| 17th May 1921 | Diamond Wedding: Celebration Bourne Veterans: Longevity Records: On Saturday last Mr and Mrs George WILSON of West Street, Bourne, celebrated their Diamond Wedding having been married in 1861 at Mareham-on-the-Hill, near Horncastle. Mr WILSON is 82 years old and was born at Legbourne near Louth and his wife, whose maiden name was Emily LILLEY, is four years older and is a native of Tetford near Horncastle. The latter is very proud of showing the Bible which was presented to them by the clergyman who tied the nuptial knot. Mr and Mrs WILSON have spent forty-eight years of their married life in the Bourne district with the exception of a period in Rutland. They first came from North Lincolnshire to Uffington, then to Rutland, afterwards farmed at Little Bytham, subsequently moved to Manthorpe and from there moved to Edenham where their son was the Licensee of the Six Bells Inn, and when the latter left Edenham for the South of England, Mr and Mrs WILSON came to Bourne about four years ago. They have one son and one daughter and four grandchildren. Mr WILSON throughout his life has been very interested in agricultural pursuits, first as a labourer, then as a farm bailiff, and afterwards a small farmer on his own account. In his day he was an expert at ploughing and is proud of his First Prize Certificate of Merit which he won in competitions under the Alford Agricultural Labourers´ Society in the year 1864. One can hardly credit that Mrs WILSON is 86 years of age but longevity runs in the family. Her father lived to the good old age of 93 years, her aunt passed away at the ripe age of 96 years and her grandmother survived even after the centenary figure had been reached. May Mr and Mrs WILSON be blessed with health for many more years if the wish of a numerous circle of friends. | THE SPALDING FREE PRESS |
