The parish lies just west of the River Trent between the A1 motorway and the A57 trunk road. If you are planning a visit:
- Take the A1 north out of Newark. The A57 runs just north of the village.
- There is a caravan and camping park just south of the village.
- The national grid reference is SK 7473.

- The parish was in the ancient Bassetlaw Wapentake (Hundred) in the northern division of the county.
- After the Poor Law reforms of 1834, the parish became part of the Newark Poor Law Union in 1837.
