"CHILD'S-ERCALL, a parish in the Drayton division of the hundred of North Bradford, in the county of Salop, 6 miles S. of Market Drayton, and 7½ N.W. of the Newport railway station. It is situated near the river Tern. The living is a perpetual curacy* in the diocese of Lichfield, value £66, in the patronage of Richard Corbet, Esq., who is lord of the manor. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, is an ancient stone Gothic edifice. There is a school for both sexes. The tithes were commuted in 1839. Child's Ercall Hall is now a farmhouse."
