"STOCKTON, a parish in the Shiffnall division of Brimstree hundred, county Salop, 5 miles S.W. of Shiffnall, its post town, and 5 N. of Bridgnorth. The village is situated on the turnpike road betwixt Shiffnall and Bridgnorth, near the river Severn, which bounds the parish on the W. The parish includes the hamlets of Norton and Highford, and part of Apley Park. Eastward of the park is a natural terrace two miles in length, with a prospect of the Wrekin and Clee hills."
