ANSLEY, Warwickshire

"ANSLEY, a parish in the hundred of Hemlingford, in the county of Warwick, 3 miles to the S. of Atherstone. Nuneaton is the post town. It is situated on the river Bourne, and the Oxford canal passes through the parish. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Worcester, value £116, in the patronage of the lord chancellor. The church, part of which is in the Norman style, has a handsome tower, and is dedicated to St. Lawrence. The parochial charities amount to £47. There is a chapel belonging to the Wesleyan Methodists. Ansley Park, which was lately the seat of the Ludfords, is a spacious and picturesque demesne, adorned with a Chinese temple, erected by Sir W. Chambers, and a hermitage built of the materials of an ancient oratory."
