Barbon is a parish in Lonsdale Ward.
It was formerly a township in Kirkby Lonsdale parish.
Berebrune in the Domesday Book. The name is probably derived from O.N. barr or berr brunn-r - bare looking burn or stream.
Returns do not survive for the 'census' of 1787.
Census returns are available from the usual sources for 1841-1901.
