Gwernaffield / Waun
The new parish of Gwernaffield was gazetted on 13 December 1844, having been created from the townships of Gwernaffield and Hendrebiffa - both of which had been in the parish of Mold until that time.
Part of the township of Gwernaffield was subsequently transferred to the new parish of Rhydymwyn in 1865.
Church History

The church, Holy Trinity, at Gwernaffield was consecrated in 1838, as a chapel of ease to the Parish Church of Mold.
In 1860, the church was severely damaged by arsonists, who also stole £13-11-9 (thirteen pounds, eleven shillings and ninepence) from the premises.
The building was eventually demolished in 1871, so that a new church could be built on the site - this was consecrated on 22 August 1872.

Civil Registration
The new parish of Gwernaffield was assigned to the No. 4 ("Mold") sub-district of the Holywell Registration District, which was co-extensive with the Holywell poor law Union.
In the GRO indexes to civil registration, entries for Gwernaffield are found under:
- Years 1837 - 1851: Holywell XXVII.nnn
- Years 1852 - 1946: Holywell 11b.nnn
(GRO index references have no relevance at the local Superintendent Registrar's Office)

Archdeacon Thomas (1911) gives the area of the parish as 1689 acres.
