• First started by a group who migrated from Pontardawe. Used homes of Wm. Richards and Henry Thomas.
  In 1868 built Horeb. Minister left with some of congregation in 1892 and met in old Bethlehem. They soon outgrew this and built Calfaria (1896).  Meanwhile the Bethlehem building was later used by the Salvation Army. Horeb, Calfaria and Bethania (Neath) became a joint ministry in 1977, probably until 1992, when Calfaria became a joint ministry with Aberdulais.                 (12)

• Zoar Ind chapel (Neath) formed Sunday Schools in Skewen, Taillwyd, Cimla, Tonna & Rhyddings, all of which led to churches.
  In Neath Abbey, they met first in John Hopkins house before a new school (unnamed) was built in 1886.  From this grew Moriah, Taillwyd, opened in 1906
  In Skewen, the Sunday School was in David Lewis' home on Bethlehem Rd. (1830) before moving to Bethlehem Chapel in 1842. When this building became too small, they moved to the new Tabernacl, on Tabernacle St. in 1860. A hall was added in 1886, and it was enlarged and an organ added in 1897.  It is still running
  Tabernacl also looked after other groups.
  Maes-yr-haf Ind chapel (Neath) formed a Sunday School at the Crown Copper Works. This moved to Pentreffynon, but was not very successful.  Maes yr haf withdrew and Tabernacl took over.
  Tabernacl members also started Libanus Sunday School in Woodland Rd., Cwmdu. This developed into Bethania, built in 1907, the time of the great revival, to seat 600           (12)

• Wesleyan Methodists began in the home of Mrs. Bowen, New Rd., before renting Bethlehem.  They then built a new Chapel on the Dyffryn Clydach-Coedffranc boundary with accomodation for 250.  The Wesley was opened in 1878. There was a schoolroom below the chapel.   A 28ft extension was opened in 1901.  A pipe organ was added in 1920, and in 1922 dedicated to those of the chapel who fell in WW1. Demolished  (12)

• At the top end of Skewen (Cwmdu) a Sunday School met in the house of Thomas Bowen, before moving to a rented office in Dynevor Foundry.  When this became too small, they built Salem, Cwmdu (1878).  They left here for Hermon, Winifred Rd., in 1898           (12)

• New Road Methodist started as a Bible christian Chapel.  Stated 1865 in home or William Roberts, Pentreffynnon. Then moved to the home of Mary Jane Bailey on New Rd. in 1868. The Methodist Chapel was built opposite Mrs. Bailey's house and opened in 1872. It sat 200 people, with seating obtained from Cadoxton St. Catwg, who were renovating.  A gallery was added in 1881, and two wings in 1896 to give a capacity of 350.  A new site was found and the present Chapel opened in 1908.  The old chapel was sold to the Welsh Wesleyans, and later became Skewen Press.   In 1932, the United Methodist Church, Primitive Methodist Church and Wesleyan Methodist Church united to form the Methodist Church.A group of disillusioned methodists met in 1913 at the home of Ann Martin Davies.  This led to the formation of the Free Mission, which met in Salem Chapel, Railway Terrace, (at that time it was owned by Horeb, but used only for Sunday School)  A zinc chapel was opened on Dynevor Road in 1914 and replaced in 1949   (12)

Continued there to 1952, when moved to the Army Nissen Hut, Crumlyn Rd. 1963 purchased ground and building from Jehovah's Witnesses, but when gutted by fire in 1967, moved to Women's British Legion Hall, Caenant.  New building opened same year    (12)
