"MARY, ST., ON THE HILL, in the Cwmwd of Maenor Glynn Ogwr, Cantref
of Cron Nedd (now called the Hundred of Ogmore), County of GLAMORGAN, South
Wales: a discharged Rectory valued in the King's Books at £5..11..3: Patron,
Thomas Mansell Talbot, Esq. The Resident Population of this Parish, in 1801,
was 198. The Money raised by the Parish Rates, in 1803, (including the Hamlet
of Gelli Garn) was £53..6..10, at 5s. in the pound. It is 1 1/2
m. S. from Cowbridge. This Parish contains about 700 acres of inclosed Land.
The very ancient, and once large Mansion here, called Fishwear, is now only
a Farm-house, and greatly reduced in its Magnitude. It belonged about Three
hundred years ago to the Bassetts of Beupre Castle. It is now the property of
Thomas Mansell Talbot, Esq."
