" STEPPINGLEY, a parish in the hundred of REDBORNESTOKE, county of BEDFORD, 2½ miles (south-south-west) from Ampthill, containing 823 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Bedford, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £6.16.3., and in the patronage of the Duke of Bedford. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence."
