the will of john edmonds the elder of newburry gent. weak in body. Dated 15 november 1653.
to be buried in parish church of newbury, near the grave of christian my deceased wife.
to john edmonds my only son and his heirs for ever my lands messuages and tenementsn in newbury, thatcham and enborne.
to let elizabeth my well beloved wife to enjoy her jointure.
to elizabeth edmonds my said sons wife 1 dozen silver spoons.
to john edmonds my said sons son 1 great silver beer bowl.
to joseph edmonds his brother 1 lesser silver beer bowl.
to my brother richard edmonds £5. to ralphe edmonds his son 40s.
to elizabeth dolman my sister 12d a week for her life. to every one of my said sister dolmans children 10s.
to my sister dorothie hidden the wife of thomas hidden 40s and to each of her children 10s.
to katherine edmonds relict widdow of my brother thomas edmonds deceased 20s and to each of her children 10s
to phillip edmonds the bond of £17 which he owes me and 20s in money.
to my well beloved friend and neigbour richard rotten the elder £3 for a horse for keeping fairs and markets for the utterance of his ware.
to anne truslowe my sevant maid 40s.
to katherine merryman widow 40s.
to dorothie rodway daughter of the said katherine 20s. all to be paid within 1 year out of my stock of corn or money.
to the poor of newbury £5
to the poor of thatcham 20s
to the minister that shall preach my funeral sermon 20s
to my wife elizabeth the use of all my household goods during her life. my house to remain for the use of my son after the decease of my wife.
to elizabeth my wife £50 who is sole executrix.
if my stock of corn and money to not cover my bequests then my son john to provise the same out of the rents i have given him.
overseers: my loving brothers in law master anthony huckeridge and master shuffe pinfoll (40s each) signed: john edmonds the elder.
witnesses: john rodway, john (x) rawlins, richard (x) rotton.
probate: 14 may 1654 to elizabeth dolman [sic] relict and sole executrix named [etc].
