"LEIGH (HIGH), a chapelry in that part of the parish of ROSTHERN which is in the hundred of BUCKLOW, county palatine of CHESTER, 5 miles (N. W.) from Knutsford, containing 854 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £1000 private benefaction, and £3300 parliamentary grant. Egerton Leigh, Esq. was patron in 1826. - High Legh was a township in Rostherne ancient parish, Bucklow hundred (SJ 6883), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- It includes the hamlets of Halliwell Brow, Mowpen Brow, Primrose Hill, Rawlinson's Green, Rowley Bank, Sworton Heath and Westfield.
- The population was 787 in 1801, 1024 in 1851, 794 in 1901, 1184 in 1951, and 1632 in 2001.
