  • Hurdsfield was a township in Prestbury ancient parish, Macclesfield hundred (SJ 9374), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • The civil parish was renamed Higher Hurdsfield in 1975.
  • It includes the hamlets of Cliff Hill, Commonside, Higherfence (part), Higher Hurdsfield and Swanscoe.
  • The population was 582 in 1801, 4016 in 1851, 458 in 1901, and 418 in 1951.

  • Macclesfield: St. Michael & All Angels (Church of England). The district church for Hurdsfield from 1835.
  • Hurdsfield: Holy Trinity (Church of England). The district district church for Hurdsfield from 1839.
  • Hurdsfield, Methodist (Fence School) Chapel, Waterloo Street (New Connexion). Built in 1841. Registers of baptisms 1878-1965 and marriages 1960-65 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
  • Hurdsfield, Methodist (Ebenezer) Chapel (Wesleyan), Rainow Road. Built in 1865.
