"RIDLEY, a township in that part of the parish of BUNBURY which is in the first division of the hundred of EDDISBURY, county palatine of CHESTER, 6¼ miles (W. by N.) from Nantwich, containing 123 inhabitants. Sir Thomas Egerton, an eminent lawyer, Lord Chancellor under James 1., by whom he was created Viscount Brackley, was born here in 1540; he died in 1617."
