"WHITLEY (LOWER), a chapelry in that part of the parish of GREAT-BUDWORTH which is in the hundred of BUCKLOW, county palatine of CHESTER, 4¾ miles (N. W. by N.) from Northwich, containing 236 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the vicarage of Great Budworth, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £800 parliamentary grant.   • Lower Whitley (or Whitley Inferior) was a township and chapelry in Great Budworth ancient parish, Bucklow hundred (SJ 6179), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • The civil parish was abolished in 1936 to become part of Whitley.
  • It included the hamlets of Green Hill and Lower Whitley.
  • The population was 137 in 1801, 216 in 1851, and 201 in 1901.
