"WINNINGTON, a township in that part of the parish of GREAT-BUDWORTH which is in the second division of the hundred of EDDISBURY, county palatine of CHESTER, 1 mile (N. W.) from Northwich, containing 230 inhabitants. It is situated on the banks of the Weever, over which there is a stone bridge." - Winnington was a township in Witton chapelry of Great Budworth ancient parish, Eddisbury hundred (SJ 6474), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- The civil parish was abolished in 1936 to become parts of Northwich, Hartford and Weaverham.
- The population was 196 in 1801, 405 in 1851, and 2994 in 1901.
