Church History

An ancient parish church, originally serving the townships of Acton, Aston-juxta-Mondrum, Austerson, Baddington, Brindley, Burland, Cholmondeston, Coole Pilate, Edleston, Faddiley, Henhull, Hurleston, Poole, Stoke and Worleston, and part of the township of Sound. It also included the ancient parochial chapelry of Wrenbury: St. Margaret.

It was founded in 1288.

The district was affected by the following boundary changes:

  • 1930 April 1 — extended to include seven detached areas of Baddiley: St. Michael within the civil parishes of Burland, Faddiley and Brindley, together with the north-eastern portion of the same parish (including Corner Farm, Baddiley Farm, Springelane Hall and Yewtree House).
  • 1930 April 1 — extended to include two detached areas from Wrenbury: St. Margaret.
  • 1930 April 1 — reduced when the civil parishes of Baddington, Austerson and Coole Pilate were transferred to Nantwich: St. Mary.
