Church History

It was founded in 1844. It is now closed, but we do not know the date of closure .

Church History

Founded in 1844 as a chapel to Eastham: St. Mary. On 28 March 1871 it became the district church for the townships of Netherpool and Overpool, and part of the township of Whitby (previously served by Eastham: St. Mary). It also included the chapels of Stanney Grange: St. Andrew, Whitby: St. Francis and Whitby: St. Thomas & All Saints.

The district was affected by the following boundary changes:

  • 1964 September 25 — enlarged to include the extra-parochial place of Stanlow.
  • 1967 March 23 — extended to include the civil parish of Great Stanney from Stoak: St. Lawrence.
  • 1971 October 27 — extended to include the areas of the abolished districts of Stoak: St. Lawrence and Thornton-le-Moors: St. Mary.
