Church History
Founded in 1866 as a chapel to Bebington: St. Andrew. In 1888 it became the district church for part of the township of Lower Bebington (previously served by Bebington: St. Andrew). The boundaries of "The District Chapelry of Saint Mark the Evangelist, New Ferry" were described in the London Gazette on 21 December 1888:
"All that part of the parish of Bebington in the county of Chester, and in the diocese of Chester wherein the present incumbent of such parish still possesses the exclusive cure of souls and which is bounded upon the greater part of the south-east by the parish or parochial chapelry of Bromborough in the county and diocese aforesaid, upon the north-east by the north-eastern boundary of the parish of Bebington aforesaid in the middle of the River Mersey, upon the north-west by the particular district or new parish of Saint Peter Rock Ferry otherwise Higher Bebington in the said county and diocese, and upon the remaining sides that is to say upon the south-west and upon the remaining part of the south-east by an imaginary line commencing upon the boundary which divides the said particular district or new parish of Saint Peter Rock Ferry otherwise Higher Bebington from the parish of Bebington aforesaid at a point in the middle of the line of the London and North Western and Great Western Joint Birkenhead Railway and extending thence south-eastward along the middle of the said line of railway for a distance of one mile and thirty chains or thereabouts to a point upon the boundary which divides the township of Lower Bebington in the said parish of Bebington from the township of Poulton-cum-Spital in the same parish at which point the same line of railway crosses over the watercourse flowing from the Neston-road, near Parkfield, into the slream called or known as Bromborough Pool and extending thence north-eastward along the said township boundary for a distance of thirty-two chains or thereabouts thereby following the course of the said watercourse to its junction with Bromborough Pool aforesaid, at which point of junction the said township boundary joins the boundary dividing the said parish of Bebington from the parish or parochial chapelry of Bromborough aforesaid."
