Church History
Built in 1877 as the district church for most of the township of Moulton and a small part of the township of Bostock (previously served by Davenham: St. Wilfrid). The boundaries of "The District Chapelry of Saint Stephen, Moulton" were described in the London Gazette on 18 December 1877:
"All that portion of the parish of Davenham in the county of Chester and in the diocese of Chester which is comprised within and is co-extensive with the limits of the main portion of the township of Moulton, exclusive, that is, of that detached portion of the said township which is situate on the southern side of Brick Kiln-lane. And also all that contiguous portion of the same parish which is comprised within and is co-extensive with the limits of that part of the township of Bostock which consists of the one triangular field, which is bounded on the north by the township of Davenham in the said parish of Davenham on the south-west by the main portion of the township of Moulton aforesaid and upon the remaining side that is to say on the south-east by Jack-lane: the exact boundary on this side being an imaginary line commencing upon the boundary dividing the said main portion of the township of Moulton from the township of Bostock aforesaid at the point where Jack-lane is joined by the road leading to Moulton Church and extending thence north-eastward for a distance of one hundred and foriy-four yards or thereabouts along the middle of Jack-lane aforesaid to the boundary which divides the said township of Bostock from the township of Davenham aforesaid."
