Church History

It was founded in 1539.

Church History

An ancient parish church, originally serving the townships of Alvaston, Leighton, Nantwich and Woolstanwood, and part of the township of Willaston. It included the chapels of Barony: All Saints, and Hack Green: St. Michael.

The district was affected by the following boundary changes:

  • 1840 — redjuced when the township of Leighton was transferred to Leighton cum Minshull Vernon: St. Peter.
  • 1927 July 5 — enlarged when the following area was transferred from Wybunbury: St. Chad: "A portion of the Parish of the said Benefice of Wybunbury, that is to say so much of the said Parish as is bounded upon the east by the Parish of the Benefice of Wistaston, in the said County and Diocese, upon the north and upon the west by the Parish of the said Benefice of Nantwich and upon the south by an imaginary line following the middle of the Crewe and Shrewsbury Branch Line of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (formerly the London and
    North Western Railway)".
  • 1930 April 1 — enlarged when the civil parishes of Austerson, Baddington, and Coole Pilate were transferred from Acton: St. Mary.
  • 1951 August 10 — reduced when an area was transferred to Crewe: St. Barnabas.
